Latency problem

Recommended Posts

All realms and almost all players are having some lags, delay with casting and other stuff, when I tested bgs on the cross realm I was lagging a lot and couldn't do anything, problem first happened with me on x100 and then came to x10.

nothing wrong with my connection or computers, so I guess realms have some problems :D

latency comes from three things mainly:

1) you have let's say 10 Mbps package, and some programs are always updating, or you are downloading files without setting download limit, in this case, WoW which does not ask for too much internet, will not have enough bandwidth left to communicate with server.

2) the ISP is logically very far, or there is some physical issues creating delay in packets, means instead of a packet reaching server in 10 ms, it is taking 100 ms, with time it creating latency

3) server overloaded, the server's bandwidth is not enough to give everyone what they ask, so there will be a queue to those who did have their turn on time, which makes latency

start with 1). you can download DU meter, it will tell you how much your PC is taking internet. this way you can start to control your internet consumption on your pc. (if you have multiple PCs in your home, try to control them all, because it matters)

then, if not solved, try to ping google (or any site):

a) open start

b) (if winxp: I) run, II) type cmd then press enter) (if win 7: just type cmd, when it appears, press enter)

c) type: "ping http://www.google.com -t" (without the "")

d) check the time=xxxxms if the number is high (normally higher than 100ms) you might experience some lag ingame, and problem COULD be from your line or from ISP

at last if all is good, means most likely the lag is from server
