Do you have proof from retail? Pretty sure there is the feature to command your pets and tell them to attack different targets?

As far as I know, such abilities as Fire elemental/Earth Elemental/Warlock's doomguard&Infernal are Guardians and they attack enemies that attack their master (though they don't attack into CC that brkeas to damage).

So what you're telling is pretty much doubtful.
