warlockenjoyer Posted February 23, 2023 Posted February 23, 2023 (edited) the tooltip says "unreliable against targets higher than lvl 80", so i guess it should not work in pvp since we are all lvl 90? i ask because it does work perfectly fine against other players and everyone is lvl 90, bugged item? warlockenjoyer Posted February 23, 2023 Author Posted February 23, 2023 and another question, why does warlock Curse of element say 5min duration, yet in pvp lasts 2min?
Ink_Forever Posted February 23, 2023 Posted February 23, 2023 the tooltip says "unreliable against targets higher than lvl 80", so i guess it should not work in pvp since we are all lvl 90? not exactly. the success rate should be calculated somehow i.e. decreased by every level difference. however i haven't found any trustful sources on that topic even though tried several times on past years. all i've got was just a rare controversial estimates made by other players at wowhead's comment section. there's also a few resources to check: 1) https://wowwiki-archive.fandom.com/wiki/Spell_hit 2) https://wowwiki-archive.fandom.com/wiki/Hit#Rating 3) https://wowwiki-archive.fandom.com/wiki/Formulas:Magical_resistance 4) https://wowwiki-archive.fandom.com/wiki/Spell_penetration#In_Mists_of_Pandaria as i assume level-based resistance (see link #3) is the key to understand 'unreliable against targets higher than ...' mechanics and by that mean level noted on tooltip is supposed to be taken as a caster level to properly calculate the chances. it's my best assumption so far.
Ink_Forever Posted February 23, 2023 Posted February 23, 2023 (edited) 1) https://wowwiki-archive.fandom.com/wiki/Spell_hit 3) https://wowwiki-archive.fandom.com/w...cal_resistance level noted on tooltip is supposed to be taken as a caster level to properly calculate the chances Level - PvE / PvP Vs.+0 level (same level) - 4% /4% Vs. +1 level - 5% / 5% Vs. +2 level - 6% / 6% Vs. +3 level - 17% / 13% Vs. +4 level - 28% / 20% Each additional level +11% /+7% that means 'unreliable against targets higher than lvl 80' = 100-(20+6*7)=48% chances to hit if we don't take in considerations player's hit rating or 48+6=54% if we do. but it's still a very raw calculations because if we take lvl 70 caster or even lower all items should be always fail which is also wrong (i guess?). at this point i have no ideas and i'm also lazy to dig down. warlockenjoyer Posted February 24, 2023 Author Posted February 24, 2023 it would make sense, i have no cluse thats why i ask, it literally never fails rn - - - Updated - - - 2.1.0?
Ink_Forever Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 2.1.0? = since 2.1.0 upon 5.4.8 inclusively if no changes hasn't been made on that path (i believe they wasn't - see link of Curse_of_the_Elements)
warlockenjoyer Posted February 24, 2023 Author Posted February 24, 2023 (edited) https://wowpedia.fandom.com/wiki/Summon_Gargoyle here it says NOWHERE that gargoyle went from snapshot mechanic to dynamic mechanic (like some people claimed in the report i made about gargole not snapshotting as being a very important nerfing bug), so i guess i was right and they never changed the way it worked when it comes to snapshotting since it doesnt say anywhere that they modified it from snapshot to dynamic? Sqeer Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 (edited) can u find me the same stuff about if gargoyle mechanics changed between wrath and mop? it's a global mechanic + why should they do it FOR YOU? Edited February 24, 2023 by Sqeer

Ink_Forever Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 and where does one find those "global mechanic" changes through different expansions? where can i find this info? somewhere like https://wowpedia.fandom.com/wiki/Patch_5.4.8 some changes wasn't even documented and has been explained by devs in random interviews so don't even bother. find the video and job is pretty much done
